Yeboah injury casts gloom over victory

Leeds chalked up their first pre-season victory with a 2-1 win at Derby County but an injury to star striker soured the night. The £3.4m Ghanian international limped out of the action twelve minutes from the end following a collision with Derby goalkeeper Russell Hoult. Yeboah had earlier missed two good chances as Leeds struggled against their First Division opponents and two goals in injury time flattered them. Derby had led from the sixth minute courtesy of John Harkes' penalty and looked the sharper of the two sides but Leeds hit back with two late strikes. Phil Masinga headed the equaliser in the ninetieth minute and the game was deep into injury time when captain Gary McAllister sprinted clear to side foot past Hoult. Former Leeds United striker Ian Baird has been fined an undisclosed sum and transfer-listed by Bristol City for making abusive gestures to Ashton Gate fans. The much-travelled Baird was barracked during Sunday's 1-1 friendly draw with Chelsea and twice responded with two-fingered gestures before being substituted. Manager Joe Jordan said "I cannot condone that sort of behaviour." Baird said he deeply regretted the action but added, "I'm only human."
